Motorcyclist dies after being hit by bus on I-85

GASTON COUNTY, N.C. — A motorcycle rider died after he was hit by a bus Wednesday afternoon.

The crash happened on Interstate 85 near U.S. 321 in Gaston County shortly after 3:30 p.m.

Police said the rider, Kenneth Goins, lost his helmet while riding and got off the bike to go pick it up. He was hit by a charter bus while walking.

The driver said she tried to avoid him but couldn't. No charges will be filed.

Goins died en route to the hospital.
