MS-13 gang graffiti found at Garinger, MLK Middle

CHARLOTTE, N.C.,None — Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools crews are cleaning graffiti left on two schools by a gang overnight.

Police officials said the graffiti was written by the MS-13 gang and directed at a rival gang.

The message reads MS-13 on one of the walls near an entrance to Garinger High School. On another section, the message “RIP SUR” is spray painted.

Police said the message is directed at Sur 13, an MS-13 rival.

Police found similar graffiti at Martin Luther King Middle School, which is just a few miles away from Garinger.

The two incidents are connected, police said.

A CMS spokeswoman said the system is investigating and making sure the messages are removed.

CMS said it monitors "community trends" in school and works with local police and anti-gang groups.
