Myrtle Beach father reunites with son he hasn’t seen in 57 years

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. — A father and son who haven’t seen each other in 57 years reunite. The heartwarming reunion took place at the Myrtle Beach International Airport, WPDE reported.

The father, Richard McCleary, has been searching for his son after the mother gave him up for adoption.

“I held him twice, and it’s been a hole in my heart for 57 years,” Richard told WPDE.

He took a DNA test online. The online test found a match that was close enough to be his son. His son Jim, who had been looking for his biological father, found the match in the database. Anxious at the possibility, he and his wife contacted Richard.

On Friday, they came face-to-face for the first time since 1963, when Jim was just an infant.

Jim and his wife and son will spend a week in Myrtle Beach visiting Richard.

Before Richard moved to South Carolina, they lived just 30 minutes away from each other.
