CHARLOTTE — North Carolina Attorney General Josh Stein came to Charlotte Tuesday to help keep dangerous prescription drugs from falling into the wrong hands.
Stein teamed up with the State Bureau of Investigation, NC Department of Insurance, and the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department to host Safe Kids NC Operation Medicine Drop.

The event was part of a week-long statewide tour over North Carolina Poison Prevention Week.
Stein said the drug take back event is to encourage people to dispose of their unused prescription medicine and promote the use of permanent drug take back locations.
Every day, nearly four North Carolinians die from a medication or drug overdose. Stein said the majority of people who misuse prescriptions drugs report getting the drugs from family and friends-often taken from their medicine cabinets without their knowing.
