RALEIGH, N.C. — The North Carolina Department of Insurance says it's now looking into the state's biggest health insurer. DOI says it's received more than 1,000 complaints about Blue Cross Blue Shield since Jan. 4.
DOI isn't calling this an investigation. It's calling it an examination to monitor the company's compliance with the law.
The company admitted it enrolled thousands of customers in the wrong health insurance, signed up some for multiple policies and overcharged more than 3,000 members.

The company has said all along that the problems came from changing open enrollment deadlines and switching to a new computer system.
Insurance Commissioner Wayne Goodwin says he met with the insurer's top executives this week to talk about these problems and is now launching the examination.
If you want to report problems to DOI, call 855-408-1212.
In the meantime, there are reports BCBS may be thinking of leaving the state's Affordable Care Act market next year.
Action 9 is looking into the effect that would have on customers and waiting for the company to release a statement in response.
