NCAA recommends changes to lessen possible concussions

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The NCAA made new recommendations to protect student athletes from concussions as more data is gathered on head injuries and how to prevent them.

The NCAA released new preseason practice recommendations Thursday, including the elimination of a preseason football staple: two practices every day.

The findings released by the NCAA Sport Science Institute found that the preseason period has the highest rate of concussions and making the second daily practice a non-contact walkthrough would lessen the chance of a player suffering a concussion.

These new guidelines were voted on and endorsed with a 100 percent consensus among 16 medical organizations, including the American Academy of Neurology and the Congress of Neurological Surgeons.
