‘Never give up on yourself’: Community Matters Café marks 3 years supporting addiction recovery

CHARLOTTE — A café in uptown Charlotte is celebrating three years of serving up more than just coffee and pastries.

The Community Matters Café employs graduates of the Charlotte Rescue Mission’s addiction recovery program. The job helps people transition back into the working world.

Staff said 160 people in recovery have graduated from the café since it opened three years ago.

“That reminds us why we are here. Doing what we are doing,” said Paula Elkins, the café's brand manager.
