The transformation of Eastland Yards will soon include a first for Charlotte city government: Boosting small business retailers through subleases.

Next week, the city council will be asked to approve terms for what will be a 10-year, $8 million lease of 16,000 square feet on the ground floor of two new residential buildings under construction at Eastland Yards.

City government administrators plan to then offer discounted lease rates and/or fluctuating rates based on revenue to provide access for four small businesses. Terms for three of the four subleases are expected to be part of council’s deliberations.
