North Carolina county issues warning about possible measles exposure

DURHAM COUNTY, N.C. — A major warning has been issued after a North Carolina county sent out an alert about a possible exposure to measles.

Durham County's Department of Public Health is telling people about a possible case of measles and exposure in the area.

It happened at a Durham Coffee Shop last Monday.

Anyone who went there between 10 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. that day may have been ineffected.

Then, on Tuesday, a child with a possible case of measles was at school between 9:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. that morning.

Right now, there are no confirmed cases in the state, but officials are doing additional testing.

The number of measles cases in the United States broke 1,000, the highest in 27 years.

There are cases in 28 states, most of them in New York and in communities with low vaccination rates.

Measles used to be more widespread, but became rare once vaccinations were more common in the 1960s.
