ROWAN COUNTY, N.C. — Officers were called to a Rowan County high school early Thursday morning.
Channel 9 learned officers were at South Rowan High School just after 10 a.m.
The school was placed on a code yellow lockdown.
Officials with the school said there was a fight earlier this week on school grounds between two students.
The student who lost the fight made a threat online and threatened to bring a weapon to school, officials said.
Police were called to the high school and the student was searched. A weapon was not found.
However, extra officers will remain on campus throughout the day.
Extra officers were also called to a Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools high school due to rumors Thursday of a possible threat on social media.
Cornelius and CMS police said no credible threat was found at Hough High School and normal schedule resumed at the school.
