Operation School Bell helps thousands of children in need

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Operation School Bell is celebrating 20 years of giving clothes to children in need in Charlotte.

Through the Assistance League of Charlotte, the group gives new coats, uniform shirts, pants, shoes, socks and grooming kits to children.

By November it will have helped clothe almost 2,000 children.

The group said it helps give children self-confidence.

"They walk out with smiles beaming and just very proud of their new clothes, and ready to show up for school and do good school work," said Robin Hearn, vice president of marketing for ALC.

Last year Assistance League chapters nationwide gave out clothes to help 330,000 children through Operation School Bell.
