YORK COUNTY, S.C. — A pair linked to a deadly crime spree that spanned from South Carolina to Missouri is now facing new charges in York County.
York County deputies said Tyler Terry and Adrienne Simpson have been charged in connection with a shooting and mobile home fire that happened shortly before the couple led authorities on a high-speed chase through Chester County last month.
According to investigators, on May 17, two people noticed a fire at a mobile home on Mt. Holly Road in Edgemoor on the York County side. They said when they got out of their car to see if they could help, someone shot at them six times. No one was hurt.
Christine Payne and Chris Noah ran into Terry and Simpson and barely lived to tell the tale.
Their well wasn’t working, so they drove a van to the Flying J to take a shower. On the way, they noticed a fire at the mobile home.
“I saw the back door was on fire. And when we passed the front of the house, the whole front glass was nothing but flames,” Payne said.
The home belongs to Noah’s ex, and the mother of his two children.
“His little car is parked like this, backed in Pearline’s spot, and we pull in, like right here, so we were blocking them from getting out,” Payne said. “And they got mad, and I did see an arm, but it was a black shirt. I didn’t see no skin color or anything, but I did see an arm and fire from the gun.”
“It made me mad,” Noah said. “I mean, they are trying to burn the house down. I don’t know what’s going on with that situation. And now you are trying to take my life, trying to take her life.”
Noah rammed the car once and was quickly talked out of doing more.
“She wakes me back up to reality,” Noah said.
“He’s reloading,” Payne recalled.
That was when Terry allegedly opened fire on their van.
The car sped off a few minutes later.
Deputies have charged Simpson with attempted murder and arson, and Terry with attempted murder in the incident.
Deputies said about an hour later, they tried to stop Terry and Simpson’s vehicle when the couple led them on a high-speed chase. During the chase, deputies said Terry fired shots at them, piercing the windshield of a patrol car. The pursuit ended in a crash and Simpson was arrested, but Terry ran into nearby woods. He was on the run for seven days, before being taken into custody in the woods of Chester County.
In the days following the chase, the pair was connected to five murders, including the death of Simpson’s husband, Eugene Simpson.
Terry and Simpson will be in court in York County Monday for a bond hearing on the attempted murder charges out of Edgemoor and for the shooting death of Thomas Hardin, which happened in York on May 2.
