CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Piano Man is coming to Bank of America Stadium in 2020, Carolina Panthers and Live Nation executives announced Tuesday morning.
Tom Glick, the president of the Carolina Panthers, along with Live Nation executives, announced that Billy Joel will play at the stadium next spring.
Live Nation produces major concerts across the country.
The Rock and Roll Hall of Famer will play at the stadium in uptown on April 18, 2020.
The team said there will be a lot more concerts in the stadium's future.
“Live music is back at Bank of America Stadium, and we are delighted to begin this new era with the one and only Billy Joel,” Glick said. “This will be the first of many shows as we bring fans from up and down the East Coast to uptown Charlotte for more music, entertainment and sports.”
"We've waited a long time for this," said Live Nation Chief Operating Officer Wilson Howard. "Today marks a new chapter for entertainment in Charlotte."
Joel will only perform in six stadiums in 2020. Tickets go on sale Oct. 4 at 10 a.m., while American Express presale will be Sept. 30 at 10 a.m. Carolina Panthers PSL owners can purchase presale tickets beginning Oct. 2 at 10 a.m.
The anticipation of the announcement created lots of buzz Tuesday morning on social media about who or what could be coming to the Queen City.
Bank of America Stadium has only hosted two concerts -- Kenny Chesney and Tim McGraw in 2012 and The Rolling Stones in 1997, one year after the stadium opened.
Panthers’ owner David Tepper has been outspoken about bringing big events like festivals, Major League Soccer and concerts to the stadium. He’d also like to put a retractable dome over the stadium to allow more flexibility for big events other than football games.
