Parents to voice opinions on CMS spending millions to improve schools

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools’ parents will have the chance to voice their opinions Tuesday night about the district spending $805 million in taxpayer money to improve local schools.

That's the amount Superintendent Ann Clark wants approved for a possible bond package.

Leaders said the bond package is essential to the district's future. If approved they'd use the money to pay for new schools and improvements at existing schools all over the district.

A large amount of that money -- $275 million -- would be spent in District 2 in west Charlotte. Neighbors there said they need the money for a new high school and improvements to older schools.

Ultimately, it will be up to County Commissioners to decide whether that question goes on the ballot in November.

The district will take feedback Tuesday during a public hearing at the Vance High School auditorium at 6 p.m.
