NORTH CAROLINA — More people across the country are getting vaccinated and, as of Thursday, 8% of the U.S. population have received one or more doses. That’s equivalent to about 27.9 million people, with 6.9 million getting both doses.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said North Carolina has given more than 1.1 million people their shots. More than 900,000 have got their first dose, and more than 206,000 people have got both.
While the state is making progress and vaccinating more people each day, many are left waiting because appointments are booked for months.
Some people are traveling hours away to get the vaccine, but not everyone knows where to go or what areas have availabilities, discouraging those already on the fence.
“All of that thinking outside the box, all of that doing that extra work, going from one website to another, going from one phone call to another. A lot of people are not going to do it,” said Dr. Joanne Chesley, a retired educator.
