CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The days start early and end late for Buddy Penley.
“We will work until sundown in a lot of cases to meet demand,” said Penley, a technician for Home Spectors Pest Control Company in Charlotte.
This summer, the pest company he works for is receiving more calls than normal. They are bringing extra people in and working more weekends.
“It's been a real hot summer and the bugs are just crawling out of the woodwork, so to speak,” said Jarrod Goforth, president of the company.
This summer, the men say they are seeing huge wasps, cicadas and roaches.
“We'll try to build a perimeter around the house,” Penley said.
This year, the company said more of the bugs are getting inside.
Goforth said they have also seen ants earlier this year, and more of them.
“The heat keeps coming and they keep multiplying,” Goforth said.
He said treating the problem early and many times can help, whether you're doing it yourself or using a company. The story is the same with fleas.
“We had a very mild winter and you've got a lot of heat with that, they go a little quicker with their life cycle,” Goforth said.
With the heat and rain expected to continue, they said mosquitoes are next.
Eyewitness News called several other pest companies in the area who said they are seeing the same thing.
