Teenager killed in multi-vehicle wreck in Newton

A teenager died in a multi-vehicle collision at about 5:45 p.m. Wednesday in Newton, police said.
The 3-vehicle wreck happened on U.S. Highway 321 near West 15th Street.
Police said 18-year-old Corey Good of Hickory was driving a 2008 Hyundai Tiburon south on Highway 321 when 43-year-old Mickey Bunton turned left from Highway 321 onto West 15th Street and they collided head on.
Officers said the spare tire from Bunton’s Dodge Dakota became dislodged and struck the hood and windshield of a vehicle being driven by 28-year-old Courtney Stone.

NEWTON, N.C. — The Hyundai was pushed up an embankment into the parking lot of Mike’s Wholesale Cars, coming to rest against a vehicle parked on the lot for sale.

Good was pronounced dead on the scene.

Stone and her passenger were not seriously hurt but officials said Bunton was flown to Carolinas Medical Center with serious injuries.
No charges have been filed and police said the investigation is ongoing.
