CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Police are investigating after a woman pushing a shopping cart across the road was hit and killed by a minivan in north Charlotte early Tuesday morning.
It happened around 12:30 a.m. near the intersection of Beatties Ford Road and B Avenue.
When officers got to the area, they found Twanda Rayvon Denise Insar, 67, who had been hit by a 2016 Honda Odyssey. She had serious injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. She has not been identified.
Detectives said the minivan was heading south on Beatties Ford Road when Insar, who was pushing a shopping cart, stepped into the roadway and into the path of the van.
Authorities said the driver of the minivan tried to stop, but couldn’t avoid hitting Insar. Police said that after the collision, the driver immediately stopped and got out to help Insar before MEDIC arrived.
There is no indication that excessive speed or impairment were contributing factors in the collision.
No other information has been released.
