Police: 3 in custody after bank robbed, leading to chase, crash

Police responded to reports of a bank robbery in east Charlotte Monday morning.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Police have identified three people suspected in a bank robbery and chase Monday in East Charlotte.

Police arrested Antonio Clendenning, Kenneth Lamont Moore, and Kamara McBrayer after their car crashed off Lawyers Road.

Authorities said just after 9 a.m., Clendenning and Moore, disguised as women, entered the Bank of America on Albemarle Road and demanded money from the teller at gunpoint.

Police said an officer patrolling in the area nearby spotted a car matching the description of the getaway vehicle just seconds after the robbery and began following it.

"The occupants of the car threw one handgun out as we were chasing it," said Lt. Jonathan Thomas with CMPD.

The short chase ended when police said the suspects' car lost control and veered into the front yard of a home in Rolling Oaks neighborhood, smashing into the neighborhood sign.

The car stopped just feet from the front door of Forrest Blue, Jr.

"My wife was still sleeping in the bed and she jumped up screaming, 'Whats going on?!'" Blue said. "I was grateful that they hit the sign and not the house, it could have been worse."

Police said they captured all three suspects after a short foot chase; all three are facing robbery charges.
