Man, woman killed when truck slams into tree in Lenoir

LENOIR, N.C. — Police are investigating a crash Wednesday night that left two people dead in Lenoir.

Officers said the single-vehicle crash happened around 8 p.m. on Valway Road.

Investigators said Darrell Proffit and Elizabeth Collins died when their truck ran off the road and hit a tree.

Police are trying to determine whether speed or weather may have played a role in the wreck.
