Man arrested after missing relative found shot to death in Charlotte creek

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Police have arrested a suspect after a man who had been reported missing was found shot to death in a creek in southeast Charlotte.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police said officers were called to do a welfare check near Sardis Road North around noon Sunday.

When they got to the area, they found 55-year-old Van Thien Huynh in a creek with a gunshot wound. Officials said Van Thien Huynh had been reported missing just before 5 p.m. last Saturday.

Throughout the investigation, officers were able to identify a suspect and issue warrants. Wednesday, CMPD arrested and charged 22-year-old Anthony Huynh for the murder of Van Thien Huynh.

Authorities have not said what led to the shooting but did say the victim and the suspect are related.
