Man, woman killed, 6-month-old hurt in Cheraw shooting

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, S.C. — Police are investigating after a man and woman were killed and a 6-month-old was hurt in a shooting Sunday morning in Chesterfield County.

Officers were called around 4 a.m. to Dizzy Gillespie Apartments in Cheraw.

At the scene, they found a man who had been shot, sitting inside a vehicle that was parked in the road. Police then found a woman and a baby shot inside an apartment.

Officials said the man was pronounced dead at the scene. The woman, 22-year-old Quanecia Brown, was taken to a local hospital where she was later pronounced dead.

The 6-month-old was also taken to a nearby hospital then to Prisma Health Children’s Hospital in Columbia. Officers said the baby was shot in the arm and is expected to recover.

A suspect, Christopher Charles Green, had an altercation while at a club in Marlboro County and on the way back to Cheraw with John Michael Cooks (aka Mike Mike), Raekwon Ellerbe (aka Tune), Bobby Griham (aka Lul Bob) and victim Kwondashian Johnson (aka Kwon), the Cheraw Police Department said.

When Green got home, he remained in his vehicle. A few minutes later, the vehicle that Cooks, Ellerbe, Griham and Johnson were in passed by Green's apartment.

Cooks and Kwon dropped off Griham and Ellerbe near a mailbox in front of the Dizzy Gillespie Apartments, walked on foot to Green's apartment and can be seen on video approaching Green's car, police said.

In the meantime, John Cooks and Kwon Johnson pulled their car behind Green's vehicle, exited their vehicle and approached Green's vehicle.

Green got out of his vehicle from the passenger side and appeared to get into a verbal altercation with Cooks.

Green could be seen on video going back into his apartment that he shares with Brown.

Green could be seen coming from behind the apartment carrying an assault-style rifle, authorities said.

Johnson had just sat in the front passenger seat of the vehicle when Green and Cooks were seen standing outside of the same vehicle near the driver's door.

Green approached the passenger side of the vehicle and fired one shot that struck Johnson in the head.

Green then backed up, and it appeared that the gun may have malfunctioned as he tried to make the gun operational.

In just a few seconds, Green could be seen going toward the back of the apartment, where he fired two more rounds in the direction of the vehicle. Apparently, the shots didn't strike anything.

After Green went to the rear of the apartment, Cook, Griham and Ellerbe were seen at the car checking on Johnson. Ellerbe was seen brandishing a 9 mm handgun. He then fired multiple rounds into the direction of the victims’ apartment.

That was when Brown and the child were shot.

Green took two guns to a neighbor's apartment, hid the guns and called his family to pick the guns up.

Green's father, Christopher Wendell Green, and his brother, Marcus Anthony Smith, picked up the guns and took them into another county.

The guns have been recovered by the Cheraw Police Department.

Christopher Charles Green was charged with murder, possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime, attempted murder and discharging a firearm into a vehicle.

Smith was charged with accessory after the fact of murder and tampering with evidence.

Christopher Wendell Green was charged with accessory after the fact of murder, tampering with evidence.

The investigation is ongoing.
