Police: Men used Jamaican wigs as disguises in East Blvd. bank robbery

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Police are searching for two men who robbed an East Boulevard bank Friday afternoon.

According to police, two black men in Jamaican wigs and sunglasses entered the bank at 1000 East Blvd., robbed it, fired a single shot and left.

No one was injured in the robbery, police said.

Police said Friday evening they recovered the gun used in the robbery and were having it processed for fingerprints and DNA.

The robbery suspects tried to get away in a silver car, but bailed out of it only a few hundred feet away from the bank. Police were processing the inside of the car looking for clues Friday afternoon, but have not released any more information about the suspects.

Dilworth Elementary School, which sits near the bank, was placed on lockdown for about an hour, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools officials said.

The lockdown was lifted by 3:30 p.m. and students were allowed to go home.

The bank robbery marks the fourth in as many days in the Charlotte area.
