Police: Registered sex offender uses charity computers to view child porn

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Police in Charlotte say a registered sex offender used a local charity's computers to view child porn.

Police arrested Daniel Luna, 54, on March 20 at Goodwill's Joblink office on South Boulevard after he allegedly used a computer there to view graphic images of child pornography.

Capt. Jackie Hulsey, with CMPD's Family Services unit, says Luna had first been seen using the Joblink computers to view porn on March 8. On that occasion, a customer slipped a note to an employee alerting her to what Luna was doing. Police say that when the employee went to confront Luna, he left the office.

But on March 20, employees saw Luna come back to the office and alerted Goodwill's managers, who called detectives to their headquarters on Freedom Drive.

"...where the Goodwill employees were able to 'remote in' to the computer that Mr. Luna was using and view the material he was viewing on the computer," Capt. Hulsey says.

According to a police search warrant, Luna was viewing images of a 6-year-old girl in sexually suggestive positions.

He is charged with sexual exploitation of a minor and is in jail with bond set at $250,000.

Court records show he is a registered sex offender who was on probation for living too close to a school.

Luna plead guilty in August 2012 and was put on two years' probation, but he appealed that conviction to a judge two months later in a handwritten note saying he did not know he was living close to a school at the time.
