Police say man tried to cook restaurant

MARION, N.C.,None — Hand-tossed with extra cheese. Hold the ashes.

Police arrested a man they say tried to set fire to Titan Pizza Plus on East Court Street early Monday morning, causing an estimated $500 in damage.

Detective Angie Fineberg of the Marion Police Department charged Robert Young, 21, of Barefoot Park Drive in Nebo with one felony count of malicious damage to property by use of an explosive or incendiary device. He was taken into custody in lieu of a $5,000 bond.

Officer Brian McDaniel responded to Titan Pizza at 12:35 a.m. after a report of suspicious activity at the restaurant. He found broken glass, charred wood and two jars containing what appeared to be gasoline, McDaniel's report stated.

As the officer was later patrolling the area, he noticed a suspicious vehicle in the back of a Laundromat near the restaurant. Young was the car's only occupant.

After some discussion with the suspect and further investigation, he was charged with the crime.
