MATTHEWS, N.C. — A portion of Interstate 485 in Matthews was shut down for hours Monday morning after a construction worker hit a gas line.
It happened just after 10 a.m. on the inner loop of I-485 at John Street near Matthews.

Matthews Fire and EMS said a gas line was hit by construction workers in the area, forcing the road to be shut down while crews worked to make the repair.
Drivers were told to expect significant delays and were encouraged to seek alternate routes using US 74 and NC-51. The road has since reopened.
