Presidents Cup organizers look to tee up more sales for 2022 tournament at Quail Hollow

Presidents Cup organizers look to tee up more sales for 2022 tournament at Quail Hollow (Charlotte Business Journal)

Organizers of the Presidents Cup at Quail Hollow Club are scrambling to find more room to squeeze in additional luxury seating areas as the international team golf competition finally moves within sight.

The Charlotte course is hosting the 2022 Presidents Cup in September, more than seven years after the PGA Tour selected Quail Hollow as a future site. Original plans called for the match-play tournament to be played here in September 2021. Covid-19 forced a one-year delay to 2022.

Adam Sperling, Presidents Cup executive director, told CBJ during a recent interview that sales momentum ramped up last fall. He estimated that 80% of ticket inventory has been sold; 400 to 450 companies have already committed to various ticket and hospitality packages. Previous tournament sales records were broken more than a year in advance.

In late September, the captains of the American and international teams, Davis Love III and Trevor Immelman, respectively, visited Charlotte for a media and promotional blitz on the heels of the U.S. winning the Ryder Cup in Wisconsin.

Since then, all general admission (grounds passes, in golf parlance) tickets for Sept. 24 of Presidents Cup weekend have sold out, as have all 5,500 Captains’ Club tickets. One-day grounds passes sell for $43 to $151 each, while Captains’ Club tickets cost $151 to $262 apiece. There are several variables with individual and group/corporate tickets, including single day versus weekly purchases and inclusive food and beverage.

The Presidents Cup will be played Sept. 20-25 at Quail Hollow. Competitive rounds run Sept. 22-25, preceded by practice rounds.
