Prosecutor lays out case against man accused of killing former officer's son

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Mangasha Clark smiled as he walked into the courtroom Thursday.

The scenario prosecutor Heidi Perlman laid out was extremely serious.

“Mr. Clark is on for a bond hearing.  His sole charge is first-degree murder,” Perlman said.

Clark is accused in the 2017 murder of 14-year-old Anthony Frazier, which stunned the community.

Police said Clark shot and killed Frazier as the boy was visiting his aunt’s home on Finchley Road in east Charlotte in January 2017.

Perlman described how Clark and another defendant were planning to break into the home on Finchley Drive when Frazier and his aunt, uncle and cousin arrived.

She said that as Clark and the other suspect ran away, Clark fired a shot that struck and killed Frazier, and later that night, he bragged about it.

“The co-defendant took the gun from this defendant and said, 'I don't want you shooting anyone else,’ to which this defendant said, 'It was fun,'" Perlman said.

Frazier's father, who is a former Kannapolis police officer, didn't flinch in court as Perlman laid out the case against Clark.

Clark's attorney said prosecutors don't have any physical evidence pointing to him as the shooter. They have no gun, video or DNA.

“All they have in this case are two witnesses,” defense attorney Greg Tosi said.

Tosi's argument did not convince the judge to let Clark out of jail.

Afterward, Clark's mother, Kiauda Moore, told Channel 9 she firmly believes her son didn't kill Frazier.

“We're at every court date,” Moore said. “You will always see our face because we are going to stand beside Mangasha because he's innocent and we just want the truth to come out.”
