CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Police had to block off a busy road in south Charlotte early Tuesday morning after a hit-and-run crash knocked down power lines.
All lanes of Providence Road were closed in both directions near Fenton Place after a car hit a utility pole shortly before 5:45 a.m., knocking power lines down across the roadway.

Duke Energy crews were working to fix the problem and clear the road but officials could not say how long it would be blocked.
No power outages were being reported in the area.
Officers are diverting traffic around the intersection.
Nobody was hurt in the crash and police have not yet said what caused it.
