Public paychecks: Check out the highest-paid NC government employees

NORTH CAROLINA — The Charlotte Business Journal has compiled the annual salaries for more than 85,000 North Carolina state government employees, over 100 of whom make more than $200,000.

From psychiatrists to investment managers to transportation engineers, the state’s average salary was $51,196 in July. That average takes into account salary information for just over 68,000 employees who made more than $25,000.

Of those, 113 made $200,000 or more, and the state’s highest-paid employee, Valerie Hillings, made just over $300,000. Hillings, director of the N.C. Museum of Art, was hired about a year ago. Her salary is $301,704.
