Real estate roundup: A look at the area’s newest residential projects

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Though the weather turned cooler — somewhat — in October, new apartment construction across the Charlotte region heated up.

In NoDa, for instance, Atlanta developer Wood Partners got underway last month on its Alta Filament apartment development on North Davidson Street, between East 21st and 22nd streets. It’ll add 352 one-, two- and three-bedroom units at that 4-acre site, which formerly housed Southeast Lighting.

In South End, RangeWater Real Estate and equity partner ParkProperty Capital broke ground on The Raven at Tremont, at 536 W. Tremont Ave. That project will include 261 one- and two-bedroom apartments.

Elsewhere in Charlotte, Redwood Living Inc. began work in October on yet another single-story apartment project in the local market — this one in the Highland Creek area — and Crescent Communities will start construction on its 311-unit apartment development in University City on Nov. 4.

Such projects weren’t just taking shape within city limits.

White Point Partners’ $60 million mixed-use project bringing 300 apartments to the downtown Rock Hill area broke ground last month, and Josh Barnhardt of Iron Horse Development is getting underway on his $3.5 million makeover of The Salisbury building in that city’s downtown. That’ll result in 12 new apartments.

And several single-family residential and townhouse projects opened for sales last month, including Hopper Communities’ luxury townhome community in Myers Park; three townhome developments by Tri Pointe Homes in south Charlotte, Kannapolis and Mooresville; and Toll Brothers’ Ridgecrest community in Indian Land.

Looking ahead, Charlotte City Council received an update in early October on Crescent Communities’ massive, master-planned River District development between the Catawba River and Charlotte Douglas International Airport. Construction on the first phase, which includes a housing component, could begin by the end of this year.

And if several rezoning approvals by leaders in Charlotte and the surrounding region last month are any indication, a plethora of additional residential projects will be added here in the coming months.
