The historic Johnston Building in Uptown Charlotte has a new name as plans for redevelopment move forward.

Plans are a go for San Francisco-based KHP Capital Partners’ conversion of the Johnston Building, a 100-year-old former office building, into a 245-room hotel. Now called The Beckworth Hotel, KHP’s plans for the 17-story, 172,300-square-foot office property at 212 S. Tryon St. went before the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Historic Landmark Commission during its monthly meeting on Dec. 9.

Jeff Stulmaker, partner and chief investment officer at KHP, previously told CBJ that conversion plans for the building include 245 hotel rooms, a ground-floor restaurant and coffee shop, a 10,000-square-foot meeting room, a 3,500-square-foot ballroom and a rooftop bar.

The commission approved the plan during this week’s meeting.
