CHARLOTTE — South End remains at the epicenter of Charlotte’s growing food scene.
In the coming month, that neighborhood south of uptown is expected to add The Co-Op Frosé and Eatery, which will serve up frosé and gourmet sandwiches, and the first Charlotte taproom for Asheville brewery Hi-Wire Brewing. Another Asheville brewery, Bhramari Brewing Co., also has tapped South End for a new location.
It’s not just new brews headed to South End, either. Resident Culture Brewing Co. late last month launched its full-service, gourmet specialty coffee shop there, marking the final piece of its project at 332 W. Bland St. It joins a Resident Culture taproom and a restaurant, El Toro Bruto, that opened within the 17,000-square-foot space in January.
And the Salted Melon — a new concept by the owners of Reid’s Fine Foods — should be making its debut soon within the Lowe’s Global Technology Center building on West Worthington Avenue. That’s after its planned opening for late June has been pushed back.
Near uptown, a new 7,000-square-foot luxury art gallery and nightclub has opened in the AvidXchange Music Factory. And farther south in Charlotte, veteran restaurateur Frank Scibelli has picked the SouthPark area for his second location of Calle Sol Latin Café & Cevicheria, while Pittsburgh restaurant chain Walnut Grill is bringing its first North Carolina location to Ballantyne.
As the Charlotte area’s pipeline of new establishments grows, other spots have recently shuttered their doors for good. That list includes Kebab-Je Rotisserie & Grille in south Charlotte and Legal Remedy Brewing Co.’s brewery and taproom in Rock Hill’s Riverwalk development.
