Restaurant in South End temporarily closes after worker tests positive for COVID-19

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Waterman Fish Bar has temporarily closed to stop further potential spread of COVID-19 after an employee tested positive, owner Paul Manley said.

“No one in the restaurant has had any symptoms,” he said. “No guests were ever in direct contact with the employee.”

Employees have been notified and directed to remain in home quarantine for the recommended length of time. Certain individuals are required to get tested.

Manley said they quickly assessed who had been in contact with the staff member, who had shown no symptoms. He said almost the entire kitchen staff might have been exposed.

“We closed down for that day and immediately called the health department,” Manley said.

The decision to close isn’t easy for restaurants. Currently, there is no requirement for a restaurant to let the public know if an employee tested positive.

Manley said he hopes to reopen Tuesday.
