Retired priest gives Easter mass at The Barclay at SouthPark retirement community

CHARLOTTE — Father Frank O’Rourke retired from St. Gabriel Catholic Church in 2019, but his retirement hasn’t stopped him from providing weekly mass services at his SouthPark retirement community.

But O’Rourke isn’t the only clergy hosting services at The Barclay of SouthPark, the non-denominational community hosts services for all faiths.

On Sunday, O’Rourke hosted an Easter mass service on Sunday allowing his fellow residents to celebrate the holiday even when they can’t make it to church. The service is also open to everyone.

O’Rourke lives in assisted living at the Briar Creek Health Center at The Barclay at SouthPark. He describes Easter as a time of hope, possibility, and renewal, a time for light to shine through all of us.

“Easter invites us to be people who let the son of God shine through us and be a sign of God’s presence,” O’Rourke said, “A time to let the sun shine through our human weakness.”
