Rock Hill school officials vote to increase bus driver salaries

ROCK HILL, S.C. — The Rock Hill School Board voted to increase some bus driver salaries in an effort to stay competitive.

The increase would amount to 50 cents an hour for drivers with 11 to 19 years of experience, and a $1.25 for drivers with more than 20 years.

The board said it will cost $61,000, and  they will use the general fund to pay for it.

On Tuesday, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools held a job fair at Phillip O. Berry Academy of Technology in an attempt to recruit bus drivers.

The district still needs 54 more drivers to be fully staffed.

Channel 9 has reported students arriving home late because of drivers having to take on extra routes.
