ROCK HILL, S.C. — A Rock Hill teenager was killed in a car crash just before 8 a.m. Monday on Highway 324 near Mockingbird Lane.
Audrey Calzada, 17, was flown to Carolinas Medical Center, where she died Tuesday afternoon.
"We're holding up as best we can," her brother, Steven Roldan, said.
Calzada was a passenger in a Toyota that was driven by a 16-year-old. The Toyota traveled off the road, hit a culvert, traveled back onto the road, and collided with an oncoming truck.
Neither driver was hurt.
Calzada was a junior at South Pointe High School in Rock Hill. Grief counselors are on hand at the school on Wednesday to help students cope with the loss.
Emma Norrell and others that knew her were in shock.
"She's always just so compassionate and empathic,” Norrell said. “She always asked you how your day was going."
Calzada will be taken off life support Thursday and her organs will be donated.
Family members said she was shy and quiet but came out of her shell when she got her own car and started working. They said she was just starting to live life.
"She started going out more and wanted me to do her makeup,” her cousin, Stephanie Calzada, said. “She was so funny. She was starting to live life. So sad it ended at a young age."
There are no charges in the crash.
It still under investigation
