Rowan County deputies nab suspected heroin dealer after 2-year investigation

ROWAN COUNTY, N.C. — Deputies in Rowan County have arrested an alleged heroin trafficker they’ve been investigating for the last two years.

During the past two years, the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office had received repeated complaints of heroin trafficking taking place at Jason Dillard’s home in Gold Hill.

Investigators said that each week Dillard, 41, was receiving and distributing at least 100 grams of heroin, which was coming in through Mexican suppliers in Charlotte.

In August and September, three purchases of heroin were made from Dillard at his home, officers said.

The two-year investigation ended Thursday with Dillard’s arrest after a search warrant was served at his home. Investigators seized approximately 17 grams of heroin, packaged individually for sale, 102 prescription pills totaling 14 grams, around $5,000 in cash, and suspected stolen property.

Deputies also found a money-counting machine and evidence of ongoing counterfeiting of money.

Dillard was charged with possession with intent to sell/deliver heroin, trafficking heroin by possession, trafficking opiate by possession, possession with intent to sell/deliver a Schedule II controlled substance, maintaining a dwelling for keeping and selling controlled substances, and simple possession of a Schedule III controlled substance.

Additional charges could be brought.

Jonathan Hartford, 45, of Bakersfield, California, was also arrested at Dillard’s home for possession of a fictitious California driver’s license, deputies said. Hartford was also in possession of another person’s Social Security card and other documents, according to detectives.
