SC lawmakers help pave way for more movies, TV shows filmed in state

South Carolina is trying to entice more movies and TV shows to film in the state.

State lawmakers passed a bill that requires 26 percent of all money from the state admissions tax to go directly back to the film industry.

That tax is added any time you pay an admission to an amusement park or a sporting event.

"We want to set the stage for more people like them to come here and settle in and base all their productions out of here," said Linda Lee, Carolina Film Alliance president.

In 2016, movies and TV shows poured around $50 million into South Carolina's economy.
