Senior living community holds event to help residents bond with grandchildren

CHARLOTTE — The Waltonwood Cotswold senior living community kicked off an “intergenerational” event on Saturday morning to help their residents bond with their grandchildren while doing fun summer activities.

The facility just south of uptown turned into “Camp Waltonwood” with hay-rides, face-painting, crafts, and campfires, complete with s’mores.

The event was open to current and propsectiv residents, grandchildren aged 5 to 11 and their guardian.

The goal was to bring the older and younger generations together.

Alexis Spencer is the life enrichment manager for Waltonwood Cotswold and spoke on the importance of holding the event.

“A lot of these residents have positive memories of vacations and activities with their families. We want to bring those memories back, and camp is one of the best ways to do that,” Spencer said.

Throughout the summer, each Waltonwood senior living community across North Carolina, Virginia, and Michigan host the summer camp to strengthen relationships between residents and their families.
