Shots fired at Dunkin Donuts employees during attempted robbery

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Police said suspects tried to rob a Dunkin Donuts on W. Sugar Creek Road at 7:44 p.m. Thursday.

An employee said she was in the back of the store when she heard the suspects demanded money from a co-worker at the register.

"I heard him going back and forth, 'I’m trying. I'm trying,’ and they are like, 'Yo, you better hurry up and get that register open,'" she said.

The woman said she came to the front of the store and saw the co-worker fumbling at the register.

When the attention was on her, the employee decided to run. She said one of the suspects fired a shot at them.

"I look and I’m like, ‘Are they coming towards me?’ Then I hear another shot, and I run back into the building," she said.

The woman said she also twisted her ankle when she was running away from the gunfire.

She now hopes to see security changes at the store.

Police are still looking for the three men involved in the crime.
