South Carolina moves to slash boat property taxes in new bill

COLUMBIA, S.C. — A bill in South Carolina to cut the state’s boat property taxes, which are the highest in the nation, is on its way to the House.

It passed the Senate, 39-1, last week.

If the bill becomes law, it will cut boat property taxes from 10.5% to 6% over several years.

It would also eliminate a separate registration fee for outboard motors.

The House must agree to changes made in the bill before it goes to the governor’s desk.
