CHARLOTTE, N.C. — SouthPark Mall will undergo a significant renovation starting in June, Simon Property Group announced Wednesday.
The construction will include interior and exterior renovations that will improve the shopping and dining experiences at the mall, the global retail real estate company said. The first project will focus on lending a new look to the interior of the mall, including upgraded flooring and furniture in the Dining Pavilion and lounging areas with enhanced Wi-Fi connectivity. The columns in Circle Court will also be removed to open up the space.

The mall’s main entrance on Sharon Road will be refreshed with new painting and framing to the canopy, seating near the main entrance and fountain, upgraded LED lighting, a redesigned valet stand and fountain improvements. The West Plaza, located between Dick’s Sporting Goods and the Dining Pavilion, will receive a new two-sided gas fireplace.
"Our goal is to continuously evolve as a shopping and dining destination," Randy Thomas, SouthPark general manager, said. "This renovation project further strengthens SouthPark as a premier landmark and provides shoppers in the Charlotte community and surrounding areas with a one-of-a-kind shopping experience."
SouthPark underwent an expansion in 2004 that added the Nordstrom luxury wing and several first-to-market luxury retailers including Burberry, Kate Spade New York and Louis Vuitton.
The mall will stay open during the renovation project, which should be completed before the holiday season. Simon Property Group plans to release additional details soon.
