CHARLOTTE — The owners of Reid’s Fine Foods will debut a new concept in South End.

That new venture — Salted Melon Market & Eatery — has snapped up a 7,000-square-foot space at 100 W. Worthington Ave. It will be part of the Lowe’s Global Technology Center.

“We didn’t want to oversaturate the market,” says Tom Coker, CEO of Reid’s. “We identified this emerging trend of healthy fast casual and figured this would be a good way to introduce a new concept.”

The health-focused market and fast-casual restaurant is scheduled to open in spring 2022. It’s an idea more than a year in the making — delayed in part because of Covid-19.

South End’s rapid growth and younger demographic set the stage for a new offering, says Thomas Coker Jr., chief operating officer.
