STATESVILLE, N.C. — Crews in Statesville are set to begin a significant infrastructure project next month, replacing over five miles of aging water lines to reduce the risk of water main breaks.

The construction will take place along a route starting on Brookdale Drive and ending on Shelton Avenue. This $23 million project is expected to be completed by September 2026.

The city says crews will be replacing old lines that were originally installed in the 1940s.

Drivers in the area should prepare for road closures as the construction progresses. The city has emphasized the importance of this project in preventing future water main issues, which can be disruptive and costly.

Once completed, the project is expected to significantly enhance the water system’s resilience, benefiting Statesville residents by minimizing the risk of unexpected water service interruptions.
