Man accused of stealing SUV with 3-year-old inside arrested

Salisbury police told Channel 9 early Friday morning that they had arrested the man wanted for stealing an SUV with a 3-year-old in the backseat.

Officers told Channel 9 that they were able to find Derrick Brown at a home on Grim Street thanks to an anonymous tip that was called in.

Police said the father left the child in the Ford Escape while it was running at the Pop Shop when he ran in to the store Thursday.

Officers said Brown walked up to the SUV, got in and drove off.

The father, Gregory Fincher, ran after the vehicle but was unable to catch it.

Officers located the SUV about 20 minutes later on Tabernacle Street. The child was inside unharmed.

Police said there was another vehicle stolen an hour earlier but was recovered near W. Innes Street. Police believe Brown was involved in that case also.

Brown is charged with kidnapping and larceny of a motor vehicle and is being held on a $500,000 bond.

Anyone with information on this case is urged to call Salisbury police at 704-638-5333 or Crime Stoppers at 866-639-5245.
