Teen arrested in slaying of 18-year-old girl in Lancaster

LANCASTER, S.C. — Deputies have arrested a teenager and charged him in the murder of an 18-year-old girl in Lancaster late Monday night.

Police responded to a shooting just after 10 p.m. at 1499 John Everall Road and found Sierra Landry shot in the yard. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators learned that Tanner Crolley, 18, ran from the house after the shooting. Nearly three hours later, police found and arrested him without incident near the intersection of John Everall Road and Highway 200.

Investigators said that Crolley and Landry were in a relationship and had been arguing outside the house when Crolley shot Landry.

Lindsay Horton had attended Buford High School with Landry and Crolley and said Landry had gone

“Like I say, I knew things were bad, but I didn't know they were that bad,” Horton said.

Eyewitness News went to Crolley’s home Tuesday afternoon but his family declined comment on the case.

The shooting has shaken the small community near Lancaster where ties to school and friends run deep and where a single shot has broken their hearts.

Horton remembered first hearing that someone she knew had been shot.

“Five minutes later he said it was Sierra and my heart just dropped,” Horton said. “She was a good girl, she didn't deserve that. She didn't deserve that.”

Sheriff Barry Faile said,"First and foremost, Our thoughts, prayers, and deepest condolences go out to the family of Ms. Landry. This was a tragic loss of such a young life. We are satisfied that we were able to resolve the case quickly and bring the suspect into custody before he was able to cause any more harm."

Crolley has been jailed at the Lancaster County Detention Center where he is awaiting a bond hearing.
