Teen charged in connection with Monroe shooting

MONROE, N.C. — A teen is now charged with shooting into a home in Monroe, police said.

Monroe police arrested 18-year-old Christopher Sakyi in connection with the Aug. 21 shooting on Skywatch Lane.

Officers say the home was struck multiple times by gunfire that night, but thankfully no one was hurt.

Sakyi now faces several charges, including discharging a firearm into an occupied dwelling, assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill and discharging a firearm in town limits.

He was taken into custody and is being held in the Union County Detention Center.

This is not the first instance of teen gun violence this street has seen. Channel 9 has covered other shootings in the neighborhood dating back to 2024.
