Testimony continues in trial of man accused of sexual assault

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — On Thursday, a mother testified against a hair stylist accused of raping young girls in his salon.

She said she found a nude picture of her daughter in the east Charlotte salon.

Ray Bynum denies he took the pictures or that he sexually assaulted two teenage girls.

With Bynum sitting just a few feet away, prosecutors laid out four pieces of evidence:  Polaroid photographs they asked the mother of one of Bynum's alleged victims to identify.

“What are those pictures showing?” the prosecutor asked.

“Pictures of my daughter and (the other victim)...naked,” the victim's mother said.

Eyewitness News is not identifying the mother in order to protect the identity of her daughter, who was 14 when she said Bynum took her and a friend into his Shamrock Drive hair salon, where she said he took nude pictures before sexually assaulting them.

When the girl's mother went to the salon to do her own investigation, she said she went into Bynum's booth and found more than a dozen more nude Polaroids hidden inside a glove on his desk.

She told jurors she grabbed them.

“I took them with me,” she said. “I gave them to police. I called the police.”

Bynum's attorney strongly objected to the photos, suggesting they had been planted there.  But the judge let the jury see them all.
