Thousands of Black Friday shoppers hit Charlotte stores early Thursday

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Hours before the official start to Black Friday, thousands of shoppers lined up outside of Best Buys and outlet stores.

Channel 9 spoke with a family who's been camping outside the store since Monday.

“It’s more of a tradition. We’ve been doing it about 16 years now," said Grady Jackson. “We sit here, play cards, hangout and grill.”

The men didn't have to grill their Thanksgiving dinner, though.

“Our family brought it to us. They were close by," Jackson said.

For dozens of others who were shopping on Thursday, it was their first time going out for holiday shopping before Black Friday.

“Usually, we do a dinner and we’re the ones who host it. This year, one of our aunts hosted it for lunch, so we were free and had nothing to do and said, 'lets shop,'" said Khan Jari Joshi.

Others make Black Friday shopping a tradition.

“They have their Thanksgiving dinner and then they come in and shop afterwards and make it a family event," said Sharon Campbell, general manager of Charlotte Premium Outlets.

The Charlotte Premium Outlets are open for Black Friday from 6pm Thursday, until 10pm on Friday.
